The Straight Dope

Have you ever wondered why fish don't crash into the side of the fishbowl? Or have you ever asked yourself how long it would be before the electricity fails when the zombies take over?

Incredibly, these questions have been asked along with equally intriguing queries on the straight dope website.

Join us - become a Stumbler!

We've been absent from posting here for quite a long time, and one of the reasons is the excellent StumbleUpon - it keeps us far too busy surfing the net to find time to post the websites we find here!

StumbleUpon is an extension available on the Firefox browser. You install it and select topics which may be of interest to you, then anytime you feel like exploring, click the Stumble! button and enjoy wherever it takes you.

BigPictureSmallWorld

BigPictureSmallWorld is a MUST for anyone interested in the problems of the world today. It's mission is "to turn information overload into sensible knowledge that leads to effective action." Sounds boring? No way! There are half-a-dozen or so little videos listed under "Movies." My first choice was "BigPictureSmallWorld" and found it a real eye-opener!!!!! Look at all the videos - you won't be disappointed.

Bartleby

Have a look at Fiona's post earlier today on her favourite reference websites - she's missed out one which I'd have to include in my top ten - Bartleby.com publishes the classics of literature, nonfiction, and reference free of charge:

Bartleyby.com

Look it up!

In the days before the internet, an essential item for any household was a bookshelf of reference publications. If you were like me, it was possible to spend hours browsing through an atlas or an encyclopedia.

I don't know now if I could cope with having to rely on books - I now expect to have instant access to all the up-to-date reference information I want with 24/7 web access.

Here's my list of most useful reference sites.

ZeFrank

I'm at a loss for words to describe this web site- just believe me, it's well worth a visit. Wait until you've got an hour or more to spare!

UPDATE 20TH OCT: I've tried to get over my loss for words to make it easier for you - try "creative", "waste of time", "innovative", "unique", "wild", "humourous"!
